Termite Treatment

Florida homes host three termite problems that look similar and are solved very differently. TFS identifies the species first, then treats with the method that actually fits: whole-structure fumigation for drywood, soil barriers and bait systems for subterranean and Formosan termites.

Start With the Species, Not the Sales Pitch

Drywood termites live inside the wood they eat: attic framing, window trim, furniture. Signs are pinholes, blistered paint and piles of seed-like droppings (frass). Widespread drywood infestations call for tent fumigation; small, reachable ones can be spot treated.

Subterranean termites live in the soil and travel up mud tubes to feed. They never stop at the surface, so treatment means creating a treated zone in the soil around and under the structure, or installing a baiting system that eliminates the colony.

Formosan termites, an aggressive subterranean species established in Central Florida, form huge colonies and can also build above-ground carton nests inside walls. They need the same soil-and-bait strategy, executed more aggressively and monitored longer.

Your Treatment Options

Tent Fumigation

For drywood infestations that are widespread or in inaccessible framing. Eliminates every colony in the structure in one treatment, with a 1-year retreatment guarantee.

Liquid Soil Barrier

A continuous treated zone around the foundation for subterranean and Formosan termites, with trenching and rodding by licensed technicians.

Baiting Systems

In-ground stations monitored on schedule; termites carry the bait back and eliminate the colony. A strong fit where drilling or trenching is impractical.

What About No-Tent Treatments?

Spot and foam treatments have a place when an infestation is small, young and reachable. What they cannot do is reach colonies hidden in enclosed framing, and they protect only the wood that was treated. We compare the options honestly, with prices, on our tent vs. no-tent page. If a cheaper method fits your house, we will say so.

After Treatment: Staying Protected

Fumigation leaves no residue, and soil treatments break down over years, so protection is a plan, not a product. TFS offers annual inspections, guarantee renewals and monitoring so a new swarm is caught while it is still a small problem. Every treatment plan includes what to watch for and when to call.

Signs You Need a Termite Inspection Now

  • Swarmers (winged termites) indoors, especially in spring
  • Piles of frass that look like pepper or seeds under wood
  • Mud tubes on foundation walls or garage corners
  • Wood that sounds hollow, or paint that blisters for no reason
  • Discarded wings on windowsills

Any of these earns a free look. Book a termite inspection and we will identify what you have before anyone talks about treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which termite I have?

You do not have to. Species ID is the inspector's job and it changes everything about treatment. Send us a photo of the droppings, tubes or swarmers, or book a free inspection and we will identify it on site.

Does tent fumigation work on subterranean termites?

Fumigation kills termites inside the structure, but subterranean colonies live in the soil and would simply return. Subterranean and Formosan infestations need a soil barrier or baiting system. If both problems exist, we sequence the work.

How long does a soil barrier last?

Modern termiticides protect for years, commonly 5 or more, depending on soil, moisture and disturbance. Baiting systems protect as long as stations are monitored. Annual inspections confirm the protection is intact.

Are the treatments safe around kids and pets?

Products are applied by licensed technicians to label directions, mostly in soil or sealed stations where contact is minimal. Fumigation clears to a tested safety standard before re-entry. We explain the specifics for your home before any work starts.

What does termite treatment cost?

Fumigation for most homes runs $1,800 to $3,500, with a typical single-family home about $2,500 to $2,800. Soil treatments and baiting vary with the size of the structure and are quoted after inspection. Inspections and quotes are free.
